FDA reveals only 2,003 cosmetics companies are on file

The FDA has revealed that 2,003 cosmetics companies are registered as part of its Voluntary Cosmetic Registration Program (VCRP).

The VCRP helps the FDA regulate the cosmetics industry in the US, where cosmetics companies are currently not legally required to declare that they exist or what ingredients are in their products.

In its latest monthly status report, the FDA disclosed that since the launch of the online VCRP system in December 2005, the number of active cosmetic establishment registrations totals 2,003.

Cosmetic establishments are facilities where cosmetics are manufactured and/or packaged.

Meanwhile, the number of businesses that have voluntarily filed details about product formulations
