Family of late R&B star Aaliyah create tribute fragrance

Xyrena, an LA-based on-demand perfumery, is due to bring out a fragrance tribute to the late R&B performer Aaliyah.

The fragrance, Aaliyah by Xyrena ($64), was created with close input from the singer’s mother and brother, and comes 14 years after Aaliyah, often referred to as ‘the princess of R&B’, passed away following an airplane crash in The Bahamas, aged 22.

Rashad Haughton, Aaliyah's brother, said: "It has been wonderful working with Xyrena to create an incredible fragrance that embodies the beauty, mystery, and creativity that my sister infused into every aspect of her life."

The scent is said to be inspired by Aaliyah's 'sexy tomboy' style and contains top notes of mint, lavender and mandarin; heart notes of black pepper, violet and leather; and base notes of vanilla, amber, sandalwood and jasmine. Xyrena will donate 5% of the gross sales from the scent to The Aaliyah Memorial Fund.

"I grew up with Aaliyah's music," said Killian Wells, CEO of Xyrena. "As a huge fan, this is a very personal release for me and my company. We set out to create a fragrance to be cherished by Aaliyah's fans and also introduce her to a new generation."
