Researchers at Tel Aviv University have developed a computer algorithm that identifies genes that might one day be altered to slow the ageing process.

“Restricting calorie consumption is one of the few proven ways to combat ageing,” said the study’s authors. The team, led by Keren Yizhak, a doctoral student in Professor Eytan Ruppin’s laboratory at the Blavatnik School of Computer Science, Tel Aviv University, and supported by researchers from Bar-Ilan University, has developed a computer algorithm that predicts which genes can be ‘turned off’ to create the same anti-ageing effect as calorie restriction.
