Olive chemistry joins exotic butters

HallStar, perhaps best known for its sun care solutions, is continuing its development into the naturals arena with the acquisition of B&T Srl, a world expert in the development of high performance natural ingredients for C&T based on olive chemistry. The acquisition is HallStar’s second in the naturals sector, following its purchase of Florida-based BioChemica in January this year.

“The acquisition of B&T Srl represents an exciting next step in HallStar’s strategic move into the naturals space,” said John Paro, HallStar chairman, ceo and president. “In addition to our broad portfolio of natural butters sourced globally by our BioChemica business, B&T brings HallStar a tremendous portfolio of branded products built on a strong patent portfolio and strengthens our geographic footprint globally.” B&T’s successful product portfolio includes brands such as Olivem and Sensolene.

Since rebranding in 2007, HallStar says it has expanded its position of supplying innovative ingredients to companies across a wide range of personal care product categories.

“HallStar is committed to developing and marketing innovative personal care ingredients and to establishing a global naturals platform,” commented Sergio Amari, founder and md of B&T. “Together we will accelerate the growth of a global personal care naturals platform based on producing high performance products from natural ingredients.”

Amari and his team will continue to service B&T’s global customer base from its headquarters in Arcore, Italy.

Speaking to cosmeticsbusiness at NYSCC Suppliers’ Day last month, Paro made it clear BioChemica wouldn’t be HallStar's last acquisition in the naturals arena, and the company didn’t take long. "It basically is a whole new stream of raw materials for us that we can work on and make even more interesting through various interpretations," he said. "We're hoping to create skin care ingredients with better emolliency and better stability - to get the benefits of the naturals in a more stable form.

"We're creating a naturals group inside of the HallStar Company and we'll position ourselves with that being our natural platform around the globe."
