‘The worst is yet to come’, ‘in crisis,’ and ‘suffering’ are just some of the words frequently being used by the British press to describe the current state of the high street. But are these hyperboles or a true reflection of bricks-and-mortar retail?

The headlines are hardly surprising given that in recent months household names such as House of Fraser and Debenhams, as well as Britain’s largest supermarkets, are either axing jobs or closing stores – and that’s not to mention the number of small businesses going under and the major players shutting up shop entirely.
