Best known as a brand of nappies, Huggies, manufactured by Kimberly-Clark, is moving into sun care as an extension of its Huggies Little Swimmers disposable swimpants, which created that category in 1998.

Huggies Little Swimmers sun care is launching in the US and comprises three sun protection lotions plus a patented, self-adhesive UVB sun sensors designed to help monitor children's exposure to UVB. These are placed on children's skin or clothing and change colour when it is time to take further protective action, such as apply more sunscreen, cover up with clothing or seek shade. The sensors are supplied through a partnership with SunHealth Solutions. Last summer nearly 20 million sensor samples were given away with packs of the swimpants and more will be given away this year.

"With the roll out of these new sun care products, Huggies Little Swimmers becomes the only brand to offer a total health and hygiene solution to ensure a fun and enjoyable water play experience for their kids," said Bob Thibault, president of Kimberly-Clark's North American Personal Care products. "The new sunscreen lotions and UVB sun sensors provide an unparalleled approach to helping mothers manage one of their chief health concerns during water play - her child's skin exposure to the sun."

Huggies Little Swimmers sunscreen lotions come in a fragrance-free and a mango and coconut formula. Also available is a blue melon splash spray lotion. All offer moisturising SPF 50 protection and are available in 7.5oz bottles. The line is available in the US.
