International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (IFF) has set up a new Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) comprising five experts in key R&D areas as identified in the company’s global strategic review.

Led by Dr Ahmet Baydar, IFF's senior vp, R&D, the SAB will provide external perspectives on IFF’s business needs, identify appropriate research partners, provide background in specific areas of expertise and assist in the identification and development of key personnel.

Members include: Steven V Ley, department head, professor of chemistry, Cambridge University; Cheryl Perkins, president and founder of Innovationedge, formerly at Kimberly-Clark; Thomas D Sharkley, chair of biochemistry and molecular biology at Michigan State University; molecular neurobiologist Leslie Vosshall; and Brian Willis, former senior vp of R&D and board member at Quest Flavors and Fragrances.

IFF chairman and ceo Doug Tough comments: “The addition of this high-quality SAB to our R&D group will help us develop innovative solutions in our flavours and fragrances business and better serve or customers’ needs. We anticipate that it will gives us strong competitive advantage not only by tapping into the minds of the board members, but by leveraging their access to a global network of academics, high level industry members and their associates.”
