Emerging markets continue to fuel growth

Flavours and fragrances company IFF has seen positive first quarter results as reported and local currency sales grew by 9% to total $714m.

Looking at the individual business units the fragrance unit put on 7% as emerging markets continued to grow while the flavours arm of IFF put on an even healthier 12% on the previous year as demand in Latin America and Asia remained strong.

Doug Tough, chairman and ceo commented: “We are pleased with our excellent start to 2011, especially given that we are comparing to a very strong year-ago performance of double-digit growth. Our top line performance was once again driven by double-digit growth in the emerging markets.

“In the developed markets strong demand for our innovative products, such as healthier and more natural offerings, drove high single-digit growth.”
