proDERM invests in a new generation of Raman spectroscopy

The contract research institute proDERM has expanded its equipment park with another Raman spectroscope from RiverD.

Raman spectroscopy is a technique that makes it possible to study dermatological parameters and drug penetration in vivo, without damaging the skin itself.

Compared to conventional ex-vivo methods such as Tape stripping, the key benefit of this method is that the skin is examined in its natural (living) environment.

With the exceptional depth resolution, the method also allows accurate statements down to a few micrometers.

Since 2009, proDERM – as one of the world’s first contract research institutes with a dermatological focus – has been offering its customers the analysis of corresponding parameters using Raman spectroscopy.

The now introduced 2nd generation, which was introduced in three variants by the manufacturer and acquired by proDERM in the premium version, was significantly further developed.

Thus, the measurement is now possible up to a skin depth of 400 micrometers, the laser signal was amplified and the resolution optimised. The device, which is currently being qualified by the proDERM experts, will soon be used in studies.
