Jason Vogel, Beth Johnson and Feifei Lin discuss a new silicone developed to improve hair moisturisation and the evaluation process for assessing its effectiveness
Moisturisation is a noteworthy and growing trend in hair care with global consumers looking beyond basic conditioning toward products that offer even higher performance, coupled with enhanced appearance. Among total launches worldwide for 2011, more than 50% of new hair care products carried a moisturisation claim. Of these 35% were shampoos, 27% conditioners and 27% hair treatments.[1]
Despite growing consumer demand among all hair types, there is no common definition for hair moisturisation. Product claims can highlight several benefits including smoothness, elasticity, slipperiness, suppleness and shine. In short, the definition of moisturisation continues to expand with consumers seeking superior conditioning plus more.
