Ingredients supplier Beraca to support companies seeking natural resources from Brazil

The service, from development company Beraca, aims to provide clients with a streamlined approach to using Brazil's natural resources

Beraca, the Brazilian supplier of natural and organic raw materials, has debuted a new service to help other suppliers access ingredients sourced from the Brazilian biodiversity.

The Integrated Service solution is said to support clients when developing tailored socio-environmental projects while also helping them comply with regulations such as the Biodiversity Law 13.123/15, which was sanctioned in November 2015.

Erica Pereira, Beraca’s Sustainability Coordinator, said: “We have acquired vast knowledge in this field through years of investment.

“Our goal is to support clients who already work or intend to work with ingredients sourced from the Brazilian biodiversity but are struggling throughout the process, especially in matters relating to regulation and access to serious, ethical benefit-sharing projects that add real value to the supply chain.”

With regard to benefit-sharing projects, the solution will help clients ensure that the profits from the sale of cosmetics will be shared fairly with local communities.

The Sabará Group-owned company will also be working with the Beraca Institute, a non-profit organisation, to help clients choose a social or environmental project to support.

This will guarantee the economic support of communities and encourage socio-economic development for the preservation of the local environment.

Pereira continued: “The current legislation relating to the sustainable use of the Brazilian biodiversity is much clearer and more coherent in its objectives and guidelines compared to the previous legislation.

“By offering this service to our clients, we encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to not only comply with the legislation but also to create added value for the end consumer.”

She continued: “This can be achieved through the support of benefit-sharing projects, positive impact measurement, traceability and marketing appeals.”
