Instagram bans self-harm images from its platform following pressure from UK government

Beauty industry’s role in rise of mental health issues linked to social media usage is questioned

Social media platform Instagram has agreed to ban images of self-harm on its site after objections were raised in the UK following the suicide of a teenage girl whose father said the photo-sharing platform had contributed to her decision to take her own life.

Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri said the platform is making a series of changes to its content rules, including graphic and non graphic images of self-harm and that further changes to its content xx will be made in the coming months.
