UK households are showing signs of becoming more cautious about spending when it comes to making major purchases amid concerns about Brexit and a possible recession, according to IHS Markit’s latest report.

The IHS Markit Household Finance Index fell to a three month low of 43.7 in August, from 44.3 in July, while consumer appetite for major purchases fell at the second-fastest rate since September 2017.
