Luxury Packaging & Packaging Innovations London took place last week, attracting world-class speakers, international exhibitors and 3,560 visitors, smashing last year’s record attendance with an increase of 18%. Fabergé, Estée Lauder, Harrods, Ted Baker, L’Oréal and Space NK were among the many visiting the show.

The sell-out show, which took place on 1 & 2 October 2013, featured its first ever Beauty Symposium, run in association with The Red Tree Consultancy.  The high-level, yet highly practical line-up of beauty experts opened the first day of the show to inspire all those visiting on how to accelerate growth and build a successful beauty business.

Stirling Murray, CEO & Founder of The Red Tree, a leading international beauty brand consultancy kicked off the packed out theatre, welcoming all with an introduction into ‘Beauty packaging – the glamour and the glory!’

Helen Miller, former Commercial Director at Boots UK beauty businesses, was next sharing her views on ‘The seven features of highly effective packaging – a retail view’.

Discussing the importance of packaging in engaging an online audience was Barny Macaulay, Founder of The Future of Luxury, and Creative Director at The Barn, who explored the significance of the human senses - ‘Can’t touch, can't feel, can't smell’.

Judy Deuchar, ex VP of Merchandising and Planning at QVC UK, now Founder of The Clifton Studio, an innovative global business strategy consultancy, conveyed her global brand experience, and the importance of packaging in expressing the brand story.

Mark  Fanthorpe, Owner of Umbrella Design, a leading retail design consultancy, provided insight into ‘Persuasive package design: what to do, what not to do, and how to stand out from the crowd’.

Stirling Murray, CEO & Founder of The Red Tree, remarked on the success of the show, and said: "With its strong emphasis on design and luxury, the show provided the perfect place to host our second Beauty Symposium. Having speakers such as Helen Miller and Judy Deuchar, meant we could give delegates some real packaging and retail insights for driving their beauty businesses forward. They could then go out into the show and talk to suppliers who could help them apply that learning.”

The show featured major luxury exhibitors such as Faca Export, DAPY Paris, HH Deluxe Packaging, Leo Luxe, AEC Packaging (UK) Ltd, and Papeteries De Montsegur, who were all showcasing their latest products and designs.

"If you are running or launching a beauty brand I wouldn't miss this show - it has insight and innovation all under one roof,” concluded Murray.

Andrew Cottan, Packaging Development Manager at GF Smith exhibiting at the show, said: “It is great to have a UK show with a dedicated luxury packaging zone. The quality of visitors coming through the doors and the potential business leads we received were really good. We’ll be back next year without a doubt.”

Alison Church, Event Director at Packaging Innovations, commented: “We couldn’t be more delighted; every area of the show was heaving throughout both days, and the feedback from visitors and exhibitors has been incredible. The Beauty Symposium was a hit, with crowds gathering around the theatre, and even sitting on the stairs above, to find out the latest trends in beauty retail and product marketing.

“The response to the show in general, and in particular the Luxury Packaging element, has been phenomenal, making it very much the place where all those involved in branding, design, product marketing and inspirational packaging meet each year; which has resulted in very happy exhibitors, with 75% rebooking onsite for the 2014 show. We’ll be back next year, with plans to expand the floor plan, show features, and speaker line-up!”
