The consumer goods giant continues to support anti-bullying and LGBT equality

Consumer goods giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) turned more than 20 of its consumer brands’ logos purple yesterday to show its support for LGBT equality on Spirit Day.

Spirit Day, held every year by LGBT equality organisation GLAAD, aims to encourage individuals to wear purple in order to stand up against bullying and show their support for LGBT equality. Some of J&J's brands that turned purple for the day included: Aveeno, Clean & Clear, Neutrogena and Listerine, among others.

In addition to Spirit Day, this year J&J invites members of the public to upload a photo through its Donate a Photo app. For every photo shared in support of US organisation Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) through the app, J&J will donate $1 to help protect children from bullying up until 31 December.

“J&J is once again proud to stand up against bullying and continue to advocate for LGBT rights,” said Alison Lewis, Chief Marketing Officer, J&J Family of Consumer Companies. “Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is deeply rooted in the values instilled by Our Credo and is exemplified in a number of our companies’ programs and activities.”

Spirit Day is not the only way J&J supports the LGBT community. In 2012, the company set up its Care With Pride programme – a corporate-wide anti-bullying and LGBT equality initiative. By the end of this year, it is forecast that Care With Pride will have raised more than $750K for LGBT charitable partners.
