The successful beauty tech companies will have access to funding and mentoring from experts through the Digital Beauty QuickFire Challenge

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has launched a challenge that will reward the next big digital beauty solution in skin care with up to $50,000.

The Digital Beauty QuickFire Challenge encourages start-ups to create digital beauty technology that improves skin care results for consumers.

The winner or winners will receive up to a total of $50,000 in funding to commercialise their product idea.

Sebastien Guillon, President, Global Beauty, J&J Consumer, said: “True innovation doesn't just elevate product experiences and outcomes — it challenges the very definition of skin care itself.

“The next beauty tech disrupters are out there, and this challenge will help us identify the most promising potential partners in the co-creation of meaningful, future-forward skin solutions."

Besides financial rewards, the successful companies will be able to consult a network of experts; take up residency for up to one year at a J&J JLABS facility; and use a J&J Consumer Experience Center, where they can design and carry out one free research initiative.

In particular, J&J is looking for tools that create insights for consumers to use at-home, devices that track impact of factors such as pollution or UV, and technologies that increase efficacy beyond traditional topical application.

Applications are open until 19 January 2018 and judging will begin on 22 January, with the winners announced on 31 March.
