Kalichem Italia offers clear alternative to TiO2

Calcium hydroxyapatite provides new sunscreen option


Kalichem Italia is offering calcium hydroxyapatite as an alternative to TiO2 for use in sunscreens under the trade name Apalight. According to Kalichem, Apalight showed better efficacy than (or at least comparable efficacy to) micronised TiO2 when used in several sunscreen formulas and tested using the Colipa method, while boasting the advantage of complete physiological compatibility and no white appearance.

In addition Apalight's ions are slowly incorporated into the skin structure so that no solid residues are left on the skin's surface in the long term. Moreover, noticeable skin improvements have been recorded following the application of calcium ions.
