L’Oréal, together with skin care brand La Roche-Posay, has developed a prototype to help customers track their skin’s pH level.
My Skin Track pH is a wearable sensor that works with a companion app to give users a pH level measurement from 0 to 14.
The thin, flexible sensor provides a reading after being placed on customer’s inner arm for tp to 15 minutes.
According to L’Oréal, healthy skin pH should measure between 4.5 and 5.5, which is slightly more acidic than the balanced level of 7.
An inbalance of pH levels in skin is also known to be a cause of common skin concerns, such as dryness, eczema and atopic dermatitis.
Commenting on the technology Guive Balooch, Global VP of L’Oréal’s Technology Incubator, said: “Our goal is to use this advanced technology to empower consumers with meaningful information about their skin, so that they can find the products that are right for their individual needs.

Meanwhile, Laetitia Toupet, Global General Manager for La Roche-Posay added: “This new prototype represents the next step in La Roche-Posay’s beauty tech journey.
“We are committed to bringing scientific progress directly to consumers, to help them take great care of their skin.”
Epicore Biosystems, a leader in microfluidic platforms and wearable sensors, partnered with the beauty giant to create the technology.
This is the second digital venture L’Oréal and La Roche-Posay have taken on to protect customer’s skin; last year it revealed its My Skin Track UV to measure pollution, pollen, UV and humidity levels.
The product will be introduced across the US in 2019 through select La Roche-Posay dermatologists.
