French dermo-cosmetics company Laboratoires Expanscience, owner of the Mustela baby care brand, has purchased Babo Botanicals, a US-based botanically-infused mineral skin care brand, for an undisclosed sum.

Babo was founded in 2010 by Harvard graduate, beekeeper and Peace Corps activist Kate Solomon, who has a background as a natural product developer at L'Oréal, LVMH, Avon, and Redken.

She developed the range when she was unable to find natural skincare products for her young children.

Babo now sells a wide range of mineral and plant-based premium skin care, sun care and hair care products for babies and children, and has recently added products for adults with sensitive skin. Its products are certified by the Environmental Working Group.

The acquisition allows Expanscience to strengthen its presence in the baby and family category, and gives Mustela access to US distributors and key retailers including Whole Foods, where Babo Botanicals is launching nationwide.
