French natural exfoliators specialist Lessonia has launched Celluloscrub, a renewable and biodegradable exfoliating ingredient to replace polyethylene (PE) beads in cosmetics.

“To replace PE beads, cosmetic manufacturers can choose among many eco-friendly exfoliating agents made from shells, kernels, minerals, bamboo, rice, natural waxes, polylactic acid or microcrystalline cellulose,” said the firm. “But none of these ingredients is able to present all the same characteristics of PE.”

Celluloscrub is already approved worldwide, including in China, according to the company.
