French cosmetics direct seller fights again

French specialist in direct sales of cosmetics to households, Lexel is to combine direct sales with online business after being put into liquidation by the economic turndown and reduced consumption. Its plan for relaunch as New Lexel Cosmetiques has been approved by the Montpellier commercial tribunal.

The project will be led by the new owners of the company Philippe Avis, a former manager with LVMH and Marionnaud, and Carl Buchalet, a specialist in online selling. The two men will inject an initial tranche of €500,000 out of total planned investment of €1m in the company.

The workforce across France is being cut back from around 700 to some 189. The potential client base is estimated at about 1.2 million but the core customer base is currently about 250,000.
