ACTIGYM marine ingredient – a secret personal trainer

Research and development company, Lipotec, has introduced ACTIGYM marine ingredient. By mimicking the effects of endurance training, it looks to improve body definition by redefining areas sensitive to sagging, ageing or insufficient physical activity.

The marine ingredient has proven efficacy in increasing the release of adiponectin from adipose release. This protein is released under aerobic training conditions and signals the skeletal muscle to enhance the metabolism of tonic fibers (type I) and their mitochondrial activity, so they can provide extra support to arms, legs and the abdomen.

A tried and tested ingredient

To measure the body toning activity of ACTIGYM marine ingredient, an in vivo test was performed on a selected panel of women volunteers between the ages of 35-50 years old with sedentary life styles. The panel was divided into three different groups:

  1. The first group used a cream containing 5% of the active ingredient in the arms, abdomen and thighs for 56 days
  2. The second group combined the treatment with standardised exercise (with a personal trainer twice a week)
  3. The third group completed the same exercise while applying a placebo cream

After 28 days, the volunteers with a sedentary lifestyle saw reductions of up to -2.8 cm in abdomen contour, and up to -2.1 cm in thigh after 56 days of treatment. This trend was also evident in the arms.

Results were even more impressive in volunteers who used the treatment in addition to performing standardised exercise. The results show that this novel marine ingredient can be adapted to a wide range of applications accommodating the lifestyles of modern consumers.

ACTIGYM marine ingredient is an extracellular substance produced by a microorganism inhabiting Bermuda (Bacillus sp) and is part of Lipotec’s product brand BIOINTEC blue biotechnology.
