The Selena La Reina line pays homage to the artist’s contributions to music and fashion

MAC Cosmetics has dedicated its second collection to the late ‘Queen of Tejano’ music Selena Quintanilla.

The 23-year-old American singer-songwriter was celebrated for her contributions to music and fashion.

She began professionally recording music at age 10 and won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year six years later.

By the 1990s she was named the top-selling Latin artist by Billboard magazine.

Quintanilla’s former manager Yolanda Saldiívar was convicted of her murder in 1995, when she was 23-years-old.

In close collaboration with her family, the new Selena La Reina collection is inspired by her music style, featuring rich shades for eyes and lips that are designed to suit all skin types and tones.

Meanwhile, the packaging gives a nod to the artist’s famous rhinestone bra.

Speaking about the new line, Quintanilla’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, said: “This collection is so special to me because it celebrates Selena’s legacy and I wanted the packaging to be fun and memorable.

“The true inspiration behind the packaging is Selena’s iconic rhinestone bra and really led to the holographic feel for the rest of the collection so it pulled everything together.”

The line includes lipstick, lip gloss, lip pencil, liquid matte lip colour, highlighter and eight-shade eyeshadow palette, as well as a make-up bag (form US$18.50).

Customers will be able to shop the line from 21 April via maccosmetics.com.
