A year ago, Jeremy Paxman would probably not have been the role model most Brits would have put at the centre of the UK’s biggest trend in male grooming. But since August 2013, when the Newsnight presenter sported a full beard which sent Twitter into meltdown, Paxman and fellow facial hair aficionados George Clooney, Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper were featured in countless articles on this growing trend. The beard was officially having a moment. However, as Procter & Gamble announced in January that the trend for beards, moustaches and stubble had affected their second quarter profits, with sales of Gillette razors falling flat and Braun electric razors decreasing, it raised a question: has the fashion for facial hair left a five o’clock shadow on the male grooming market?
