The new store, opening in Chicago, US, will stock products across beauty fragrance and male grooming lines

US-based pharmacy brand Merz Apothecary has opened its doors to a new retail space in Chicago, US.

The Shops at Merz will stock products across beauty, fragrance and male grooming categories offering three boutiques in one concept.

Merz currently stocks over 100 products online, including lines from The Naked Bee, Wilkinson Sword, Mason Pearson and Lily of the Desert. The brand was founded by Swiss pharmacist Peter Merz in 1875, before it was taken on by Abdul Qaiyum in 1972 and is now owned by his son Anthony Qaiyum.

Commenting on the new store Qaiyum said: “As we looked at where we could serve our customers in an even better and more exciting way, we realised that we had a major opportunity with beauty, fragrance and men’s grooming.

“Before the opening of The Shops at Merz, we had a great selection in each of these areas; our goal with our new store concept is to move from great to world-class in both our assortment and in our level of service.”

He continued: “It is really fun and exhilarating to have a company that is evolving and pushing the boundaries of retail even though we’ve been around since 1875.”

The three compartmentalised boutiques will feature the brand’s extensive collections of products and the space has been designed to be explorative and educational.

Qaiyum added: “We are creating an ideal setting to explore fragrance and discover new skin care and make-up necessities.

“We are also adding more expertise to our team so that we can give our customers a one-on-one educational experience when desired.

“I believe our customers will love this new concept,” said Qaiyum.
