Neopac introduces first recyclable PE tube with HDPE flip-top cap

The tube's body, shoulder and cap are composed of a single material family

Hoffmann Neopac has launched the world’s first fully-recyclable tube solution whose body, shoulder and cap are composed of a single material family.

The monomaterial tube and cap combination pairs a polyethylene tube with a high-density polyethylene flip-top cap.

This, says Neopac, has been a longstanding hurdle for hinged caps, which were previously made largely from less recyclable polypropylene materials.

The tubes can also be paired with screw-top caps and, in addition to the HDPE flip-top caps, Neopac is launching a wide portfolio of PE screw caps. Manufactured in house, these are available in diameters of 16-40mm.

“Achieved in collaboration with a long-time supplier, the new HDPE flip-top caps overcome the last hurdle to fully recyclable tube packaging – namely, the ability to form functional closures from the same material as the tube body and shoulder,” said Simon Böhlen, Development Engineer for Neopac.

“Health & beauty, food and pharmaceuticals brands can now assure their increasingly sustainability-conscious customers that the packaging in which their products are housed has the lowest-possible environmental impact, as we move toward a fully circular packaging economy.”

Neopac’s full PE Cap range is available for all of its PE, COEX, EcoDesign and Polyfoil tube ranges.

And, from November, the supplier’s fully monomaterial PE Tubes with Flip-top cap will be available as stock solutions with its new DigitAll360° printing service.
