"I feel like I never left the beauty business.” Toni Ko, the founder of Nyx Cosmetics and one of the richest self-made women in America, tells Cosmetics Business.

Before Emily Weiss and Glossier, or Huda Kattan and Huda Beauty, there was Toni Ko and Nyx Cosmetics.

An early pioneer in the golden age of beauty, Ko captured a generation of make-up lovers with her department store quality products at drugstore prices. Launched in 1999, with Ko as the sole employee, Nyx started with just eye pencils and made US$2m in the first year.
