Organic Monitor extends events to Asia
Sustainable Cosmetics Summit will take place in Hong Kong in November
Organic Monitor is to launch an Asian edition of its Sustainable Cosmetics Summit later this year. The event is due to take place in Hong Kong from 7-8 November and aims to help establish natural and organic beauty products in the region.
The summit will open with a dedicated workshop covering formulation issues associated with the sector – such as natural alternatives to synthetic chemicals – and reviewing the leading natural and organic standards.
A second workshop will focus on business openings and marketing challenges. Topics under discussion are set to include the latest market developments and major obstacles to growth in the Asian market. Pioneering companies in Europe and North America will also share best practices.
Meanwhile, day two of the summit agenda will feature seminars showcasing leading Asian brands in the naturals arena: Jasmin Skincare will share its experience of targeting Chinese consumers while Himalaya Healthcare’s Dr Prahallad Maddi Archana will discuss how ayurveda is permeating into natural cosmetics. In addition, a leading retailer will give its perspective in selecting natural and organic beauty products, while market research company GfK will share its findings on green consumers in Asia.
In the sustainability best practices session, the RSPO will tackle the future role of roundtables in commodity sourcing, while the green formulations session (following on from the opening workshop) will include updates on green ingredients and formulations from companies including AAK.
Although Asia is a major source of natural ingredients, very few companies are currently involved in producing and marketing natural and organic products and organisers hope the summit will help overcome some of the major impediments to growth in Asian natural and organic beauty. “Natural, organic and sustainability are becoming an integral part of the beauty industry in the western world,” commented Amarjit Sahota, founder and president of Organic Monitor. “We are taking the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit to Asia to show sustainable development should not be confined by geographical boundaries.”
