Jewellery company expands into beauty with acquisition

Origami Owl has announced that it has agreed a deal to purchase willa, a New York-based beauty brand.

The mother-daughter team behind the brand, Christy Prunier and Willa Doss, will continue to work on the brand. They will be joined by Annette McEvoy, who has been named as the new CEO.

“This partnership will enable willa to reach a larger social selling audience and share willa’s inherent goodness with even more people.” — Annette McEvoy, CEO willa

McEvoy has previously worked at L’Oréal, Revlon and Gap Body Care. She has more than 30 years experience in the beauty industry and was part of the founding team at Bath & Body Works.

McEvoy said: ‘All of us at willa are thrilled to be joining the Origami Owl Family of Brands. We have complementary visions and goals.”

She added: “This partnership will enable willa to reach a larger social selling audience and share willa’s inherent goodness with even more people.”

Origami Owl was founded in 2010 by another mother-daughter team. Bella Weems created a range of jewellery with the aim of buying a car once she turned 16.

Since then, the brand has become a national social-selling company with more than 300 employees and 40,000 independent sales consultants.

willa encourages teenage girls to partner with their parents to develop a social selling business. The brand creates gentle products, free from parabens and phthalates.
