Athlete faces murder charges

Paralympic and Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been dropped by the Clarins Group as the face of its Thierry Mugler A*Men fragrance, a campaign he has fronted since 2011.

The French cosmetics firm has withdrawn all Thierry Mugler campaigns featuring Pistorius, 26, following the charges made against him over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, on 14 February.

Thierry Mugler told WWD: “Out of respect and compassion for the families implicated in this tragedy, Thierry Mugler Perfumes has taken the decision to withdraw all its campaigns with Oscar Pistorius.”

Clarins is not the first company to have severed ties with Pistorius; Nike has suspended its contract with the athlete and Oakley has withdrawn advertisements featuring Pistorius.
