PCPC rules on sunscreen use

All people, no matter what their age or skin tone, should use sunscreen every day

The US trade association the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) has submitted public comments to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention stating that all people, no matter what their age or skin tone, should use sunscreen every day. The comments came in response to the agency’s request for information on ways of reducing exposure to UV radiation to reduce skin cancer rates.

“Individuals of all ages and skin tones should use sunscreen daily as part of an overall safe sun regimen to reduce the risk of UV damage, including premature skin ageing and skin cancer,” said Farah Ahmed, chair of the PCPC Sunscreen Committee.

In a separate finding, market analyst Companies and Markets forecasts that the US sun care market will reach sales of $2bn by 2017 – a rise of 16% over the next five years.
