P&G says it has made "great progress” with regard to its use of renewable energy over the past year.

The company recently released its 17th annual sustainability report, detailing its efforts to reduce its environmental impact and improve social conditions around the world.

P&G has a long-term goal of powering all of its plants with 100% renewable energy and using 100% renewable or recycled materials for all products and packaging. According to the report, the company has already met this target for wood pulp, sourcing 100% certified virgin fibre in its tissue towel and absorbent hygiene products.

In 2015 P&G also met its goal of reducing truck kilometers per unit of production by 20%. Overall, this has been reduced by 25% since 2010. It has also met its goal of reducing water usage during manufacturing by 21% since 2010.

In terms of meeting its social goals, P&G is currently on track to provide 15 billion litres of clean drinking water to children by 2020.

Len Sauers, Vice President of Sustainability at P&G commented: “Sustainability is a responsibility and a business opportunity. Since 2007, we have realised a cost saving of nearly $2bn through waste and energy savings and have reduced our environmental impact. It is exciting to see the changes we are making in our operations, the benefits created for the business and the progress we are making against our sustainability goals.”
