From slicked back hair to neon eyes, the social media platform reveals the looks, colours and beauty tools for 2018

Pinterest has unveiled ‘The 100’ list of global trends across all consumer lifestyle categories for the year ahead.

The fourth annual report flags up the trends most ‘pinned’ – or digitally saved – by consumers throughout 2017, across some of its most popular sectors including beauty.

“Because of the planning mindset of people who use the platform, Pinterest is able to capture unique intent signals based on each search, save and clicks to help businesses use these insights for optimising their marketing strategies both on and off Pinterest,” the report explains.

In 2017, beauty proved to be one of the strongest categories on the social media platform: Pinterest reported a 75% increase in beauty pinners to 48 million.

Here are Pinterest’s ten global beauty trends of 2018:

1. Next-level lashes

According to the application, eyebrows will continue to be big in 2018 but ‘lashes’ will be the frontrunner as Pinterest reports a 152% increase in saved searches.

2. Oil discovery

From softer skin to smoother hair to nourish lips, the multi-purpose oils are only going to get more popular as consumers seek convenient options.

In particular, saves for ‘cleansing oil’ have soared by 555% on Pinterest.

3. True colours

Thanks to Fenty Beauty’s inclusive foundation range and the growing demand from consumers for beauty brands to recognise their individuality, it’s unsurprising that searches for ‘colour matching’ has increased by 378% in 2017.

4. Extreme lengths

While lobs and bobs can be seen on fashion icons like Bella Hadid, Kate Middleton and Sarah Jessica Parker, beauty fans are preferring to take their look a step further as saves for ‘long hair’ and ‘pixie’ were up 130%.

5. The modern mani

In 2018 extreme nails (Google succulent manicures) are predicted to be old hat; as ‘geometric nails’ had a search uplift of 83% this year.

6. Bright eyes

Last year, Western consumers were catching up with fellow Chinese beauty fans when it came to the facial roller trend and this is only getting to becoming more popular as saves of this treatment increased by 345%.

8. Multi-tasking

While make-up is reaching a level of unprecedented business success, the category can be confusing for some shoppers.

For those wanting to learn more about the sector, are choosing to build their own palettes for convenience – as Pinterest reveals that saves for the ‘make-up kit’ trend has increased by 147%.

9. Lip tints

Even though matte lips and liquid lipsticks have repeatedly made headlines globally this year, 2018 is expected to bring a softer look with a 414% soar in ‘lip tint’ saves.

Whether it be sheer or matte, Pinterest claims the product is the perfect starter lipstick as it’s affordable and easy to use.

10. Retro hair
