Pola Orbis Holdings Inc. is expected to make record group operating profits for the fourth consecutive year.

Pola Orbis Holdings Inc. is expected to make record group operating profits for the fourth consecutive year in 2013, thanks to strong domestic sales of upmarket cosmetics.

The company's operating profit is expected to rise 13 percent to around ¥16bn. Sales are expected to climb 4 per cent to about ¥189bn.

Subsidiary Pola Inc. appears on track to boost sales of its B.A line of luxury cosmetics products, which are sold through its "Pola The Beauty" stores. The company plans to increase these stores, which double as salons, from 570 at the close of 2012 to just over 600 this year.

Mail order cosmetics division Orbis Inc. is also expected to boost profitability now that its distribution system has been streamlined. The company plans to emphasise its profitable basic skincare products. Operating profit margins are seen improving 1 percentage point from about 16 per cent in 2012.

Pola Orbis is expected to report losses of about ¥1.6bn stemming from its acquisition of the Australian brand Jurlique last year.

For 2012, Pola Orbis will likely meet its projected operating profit of ¥14.2bon, up 10 per cent from a year earlier.
