Precious metals from Atelier Cologne

Published: 2-Aug-2013

Niche perfumery house Atelier Cologne has introduced a new collection inspired by rare ingredients and precious metals. The Collection Métal line, which bows in September will initially comprise two fragrances, according to founders Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel, with more in the pipeline.

Unusually, a considerable focus has been placed on the fragrance packaging, which utilises a new technology enabling precious metals, such as gold and silver, to coat the glass bottles with a uniform finish. The finished result resembles a solid metal flacon, without the associated cost, weight or contamination issues. According to the brand, 1g of gold or silver has been used for each bottle.

The two cologne absolues, Silver Mist and Gold Leather, feature a fragrance concentration of 18%, which adds staying power to the scent. The feminine Silver Mist opens with top notes of tangerine, pink pepper and blackcurrant, blending to a heart of violet leaf, iris Pallida and mimosa. The dry down features patchouli, white amber and tonka bean.

Gold Leather meanwhile, features top notes of bitter orange, saffron and a Jamaican rum accord, a heart of plum, davana and eucalyptus, and a dry down of gaiacwood, cedarwood, leather and an oud accord.

Silver Mist is priced at £130 and Gold Leather at £145, and both launch in September.
