Roads, a niche fragrance brand, is due to unveil its new Africa Collection.

The range of four fragrances (£80 each) are created to provoke feelings of “sensual sophistication, radiance and warmth”, according to the brand. The four scents – I Am Dance, Big Sky, Past | Presence and Afropolis – are said to fuse African ingredients with the influences of literature, art and dance.

I Am Dance takes inspiration from the traditional African dance, Pantsula. It contains top notes of lemon, mandarin and marine accord; heart notes of apple, pineapple and lavandin; and base notes of amber, cedar wood and patchouli. Meanwhile, Big Sky draws on the changing landscapes and skylines of Africa. It comprises top notes of citrus, lemon and orange flower; hearts notes of geranium, patchouli, papyrus and oud; and base notes of amber, sandalwood, cashmera, myrrh and vanilla.

Taking a leaf from Nigerian literature is Past | Presence. The scent contains top notes of bergamot and smoked black tea, a heart of jasmine, and a base of tonka bean. The fragrance itself is said to be inspired the dignity and clarity of Nigerian writers and poets. Finally, Afropolis celebrates the cultural clash and rise of Africa's multi-cultural cities. It features top notes of gin, juniper berries, fresh citrus and spearmint; a heart of blond woods, iris, oak moss and marine; and base of ebony wood, vetiver, amber and cashmere musks.
