The Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) has teamed up with local universities to develop cosmetics products using rubber latex extract.

Products including facial wash gel, skin care serum, whitening cream and hair care are due to be launched next year, according to the scientists in charge of product development. "We are certain that the products that we have developed will receive good response from users and have a large market share," said Dr Nares Damrongchai, CEO of TCELS.

The research studies on latex extract were conducted by Professor Rapeepun Wititsuwannakul of Prince of Songkhla University and her team, while the application of the research findings to develop skin care products is being led by associate professor Dr Neti Woranuch of Naresuan University.

The university has also conducted clinical research studies in order to test the products' efficiency using international standard procedures. TCELS has had the role of providing financial support for the studies and givingadvice on products and services.

It has also arranged exhibitions and events in Thailand and in other countries in order to promote understanding of biotechnology, the researchers' work and their products.
