Personal Care Manufacturing Assessment Program encourages good manufacturing practices

SAI Global and the Personal Care Products Council have partnered to create the first industry-wide cosmetics supplier assessment programme. They created the Personal Care Manufacturing Assessment Program (PCMAP) to guide cosmetic and personal care companies to operate in accordance with good manufacturing practices.

The customised supplier training and assessment programme is based on the ISO 22716 standard, which provides guidelines relating to the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products, but also incorporates elements of ISO 9001, as well as multiple risk level categories where suppliers may be evaluated based on the perceived risk level of the product or component provided.

“The needs for supplier assessment and quality assurance are unique to this industry,” said SAI Global’s vp of corporate development of the partnership. “The programme that our organisations have built together supports this effort and reflects this uniqueness.”

SAI Global is launching two initial training courses this month, while the PCMAP assessments are being piloted in December with a full roll out planned for January 2010.
