B Ramakrishnan will run the Indian fragrance producer

A new CEO, B Ramakrishnan, has been appointed to run the major Indian fragrance producer S H Kelkar. The company manufactures specialty fragrance and flavour ingredients and is supported through the US equity investment group, Blackstone. The company has just inaugurated a new R and D unit in Mumbai. Ramakrishnan, 56, trained as a chemical engineer and at one stage worked with the Swiss fragrances group Givaudan when it acquired the enterprise he had set up as a private entrepreneur. The Kelkar group is owned by the Vaze family and the new appointment is being cited as a further example of the trend among family owned Indian companies of owners stepping back and appointing professional managers to run day-to-day operations.
