S + S upgrades Raycon X-ray inspection system

New control and image processing software allows simultaneous inspection of five product lines

S + S Inspection has redesigned its Raycon X-ray inspection system. In addition to detecting a wide variety of contamination in packaged and unpackaged products, X-ray inspection can identify agglomerated, deformed, broken and missing items even in metallic packaging.

According to S + S, the machine uses long-life X-ray tube and proprietary real-time software running on an industrial PC for reliability and ease of use. New control and image processing software allows for the simultaneous inspection of up to five product lines running in parallel at up to 600 items per minute. Meanwhile, an icon-based user interface on a ten-inch LCD touch-screen monitor simplifies set-up and a non-volatile memory stores multi-product data to facilitate product changeover.

Like previous Raycon models, the upgraded machine boasts a configuration unique to S + S with the X-ray source under the conveyor, rather than over the top for full product width inspection.

The new Raycon is available with standard belt widths of 230 and 330mm for products up to 150mm high, as well as 630mm for products up to 450mm high.
