Co-founder’s personal experience inspires balm

Selexir Peace Balm, a premium skin care product that soothes distressed skin as well as light to medium eczema, is set to launch into the UK market next month.

Peace Balm is the first product to launch from the Selexir of Switzerland range and contains 21 highly concentrated, natural ingredients, including the exclusively developed Serenity Seed Complex, an active seed oil compound extracted from blackcurrant and black cumin, known for their anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains a rich blend of moisturising ingredients including shea, mango seed and cupuaçu butters.

The product, founded by Elena Herdieckerhoff and Mirella Messerschmitt, was developed as a result of Herdieckerhoff’s personal struggle with severe eczema, which she developed at the age of 20 on her face. After being prescribed cortisone creams and drugs by her dermatologist she saw no improvement in her skin and was eventually told she would have to accept her illness and that she was incurable.

Herdieckerhoff said: “At this point I got angry and I just wanted to help myself. I had tried every cream on the market and had collected about 40 or 50 different products. I went to alternative doctors and was given different recommendations, which I mixed and tried on my own. Eventually I got down to 21 ingredients that worked well on my skin, which after three and a half weeks was better. Then I had people coming up to me asking for help for their children or people they knew – I felt it was my duty to let others know about what I had discovered.”

The Selexir Peace Balm is set to launch into a currently undisclosed premium UK retailer in November, while a complementary oral drug is in the process of being developed and is due to launch by mid-December.

Peace Balm is available online at www.selexir.com for £99 for 75ml or £39 for 30ml.
