Fashion brand Tory Burch has signed beauty heavyweight Shiseido to license its beauty arm, which is currently overseen by Estée Lauder Companies.

Effective 1 January 2020, Shiseido will be responsible for developing, marketing and distributing its beauty products worldwide.

It will also provide Tory Burch with a global platform and dedicated resources to kick-start the business.

Today, the brand is run by its founder Tory Burch, who acts as Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer.

Its collection includes shoes, handbags, accessories, watches and home, as well as a line of fragrances, three of which were created by the French beauty giant Estée Lauder Companies, and range of body care products.

“We are honoured to welcome Tory and the Tory Burch brand to the Shiseido family and pursue this mission together as partners,” said Masahiko Uotani, Shiseido’s President and CEO.

“Shiseido is dedicated to creating value for all of its partners and we are excited to share the benefits of Shiseido’s platform, R&D resources, technology portfolio and Centres of Excellence with the Tory Burch brand.”

Burch added: “We are thrilled to be partnering Shiseido.

“There are great synergies between our companies including a deep respect and connection to our customers, a passion to support women’s empowerment and an aligned long-term strategic vision.”

Speaking about the categories she would like her brand to enter, Burch said: “I’m very interested in the idea of skin, skin care, and what does that mean as far as beauty and makeup is concerned.

“We haven’t explored exactly what potential, and what it will look [like] for us as a partnership, but the initial conversations over the last several months have been very inspiring of what it could possibly mean.”

Shiseido’s portfolio includes Nars, BareMinerals, Benefique and Clé de Peau Beauté, and owns the fragrance license for Dolce & Gabbana, Elie Saab, Issey Miyake and Narciso Rodriguez.
