Silab has launched a new biomimetic active ingredient developed by Silab Research, called Nerenyl. The active is said to be rich in néré seed biosaccharides – the néré, or African locust bean (Parkia biglobosa) is a tree characteristic of the West African savanna that has an ability to resist dryness.
Crushed néré pods and other parts of the locust bean tree (such as roots, leaves and bark) have been used for centuries in a wide variety of traditional medical practices, including treatment of parasitic infections and disorders of the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems.
Nerenyl is said to strengthen the skin’s barrier as well as moisturise, making it suitable for use in face and body care products, according to Silab. The ingredients used in Nerenyl are developed using a sustainable supply chain in Burkina Faso.
