Unveiled in Las Vegas, consumers will be able to virtually try products on and receive personalised recommendations

Element Electronics and FaceCake are the latest companies to join the smart mirror trend with the NextGen vanity mirror.

The augmented reality experience contains sensored LED lights that adapt to natural or artificial conditions.

Consumers will be able to virtually see cosmetics and accessories on their real-time reflection. The mirror will also provide personalised recommendations and buying options.

Founder and CEO of FaceCake Linda Smith said: "An intuitive, smart mirror with professional quality lighting and an accessible price, it's the make-up mirror only dreamed of before with augmented reality features that allow for virtual makeovers, personalised recommendations, social sharing and shopping from the comfort of your own home."

The companies have joined a growing list of cosmetics companies launching an Internet of Things product.

Earlier this month, Kérastase launched the Smart Brush and Taiwan-based company New Kinpo Group released a mirror that analyses the environmental impact on the skin. Elsewhere, Griffin Technology has produced the Connected Mirror.

Consumers are also taking to the internet to make their own DIY smart mirrors with hundreds of websites providing instructions and the opportunity to showcase the final results.
