Superdrug doubles advent calendars, anticipates high Christmas sales

Since the items went on sale, searches for ‘Christmas’ and ‘advent calendars’ on the retailer’s website have increased from 30% to 60%

Beauty retailer Superdrug has doubled its range of advent calendars in preparation for high Christmas sales.

This year, the brand is offering 11 calendars including across its own brands, Studio (£26), Flutter (£16) and Bloom (£24), and its calendar for men Bristle and Smith (£18).

The calendars are packed with beauty products from lipsticks to brushes and sponges.

Also available are two Disney calendars, Snow White (£14) and Mickey Mouse (£14), four Revolution calendars and one Lynx calendar.

Superdrug’s Commercial Director Simon Comins said: “Last year was the year that everyone wanted an advent calendar early, treating themselves in the run up to the big day.

“We saw customers kick off the festive season by giving their friends and family alternative advents in early December and make that feeling last all month long.”

According to the retailer, it started selling out of products in September.

This year it has had a 100% increase - from 30 to 60% - increase in searches on its site for ‘Christmas’ and ‘advent calendars’.

Comins added: “Unfortunately there were some people last year who left it until the last minute and missed out on the advent calendar so this year we’ve offered more choice, will have more stock and have launched even earlier.

“But we do think this year we will still see some products selling out early, so do urge people to snap up their favourite sooner rather than later.”
