As sexual assault scandals continue to tarnish the glamour of Hollywood – with the number of allegations made against film mogul Harvey Weinstein on the rise – the accusations by household names sparked the global #MeToo movement.

Millions of women took to social media to share their stories of sexual harassment and abuse. In honour of these women Time magazine announced “The Silence Breakers” of the #MeToo movement as Person of the Year.

Unfortunately, the fashion and beauty industry has also been at fault to address abhorrent working conditions for models.

One model aims to change this.

In the industry for 12 years, Alison Pelletier has featured in ads for NARS Cosmetics, Kiehl’s, Macy’s and Victoria’s Secret.

But her latest campaign is in partnership with businessman Mark Willingham to launch Agent Inc, an app that aims to empower models by providing criminal background checks, 24 hour support and a review service to promote transparency.

Here Pelletier shares her insight with Cosmetics Business about the ugly side of the beauty industry.
