Tress: the Instagram for afro hair

Published: 27-Feb-2017

The new app was designed in Ghana by three women who wanted to cater for the black haired community

Tress is a new mobile app to help connect consumers with afro texture hair.

Users can upload images, find products, share styling tips and discover salons.

Software developers Esther Olatunde, Priscilla Hazel and Cassandra Sarfo created the app in Ghana to cater specifically for the black hair community.

"When it comes to Black women's hair, there is a lot of information that you need to know and things you need to do, but it is very fragmented," Olatunde told Refinery29.

"Even though the industry is quite huge and there is a lot of money in it, there is no one platform that caters to their needs."

Tress now has more than 60,000 active users worldwide.
