UK beauty job market revealed

The 24 Seven Salary and Job Market Report for the UK Beauty Industry has shed light on the beauty industry. CEW co-sponsored the survey, taking data from staff at more than 500 companies, across all beauty disciplines.

The survey revealed that 50% of hiring managers planned to expand their team in the coming 12 months, with retail seeing the second largest number of planned new hires, after marketing.

But the survey also discovered that employees are also looking for something new, with two out of three beauty professionals looking to switch jobs in the next year. A better salary was the top reason employees were looking for new jobs, with the average beauty professional gaining a 12% increase with a move.

Another reason to leave is lack of career progression. After salary, professional growth was the top reason for leaving a company. 42% of staff who couldn’t see clear career progression at their company planned to move to another job. Conversely, 92% with a clearer vision for their future at the firm were happy to stay.

Martin Brook, Group HR Director at Estée Lauder, commented: “Offering learning and development opportunities is important to business growth. We have found that moving people around the different brands and functions has been key to building engagement, especially with Millennials.”

The current beauty job market seems to favour the employee with 87% of respondents approached by a recruiter within the past 12 months. The second top place beauty professionals look for a new role is on LinkedIn followed by professional networks and job board searches.

Vasiliki Petrou, Senior Vice President of Prestige at Unilver, said: “There is huge excitement around the new generation of talent – the are motivated by very different values.”
