UPL invests in major equipment upgrade

Upgrade will increase UPL\'s production capacity

UPL has started a major programme of investment to upgrade its manufacturing equipment and is starting this programme by adding newer more versatile and modern process mixing vessels to its manufacturing equipment.

The suppliers of the new vessels are T. Musk, a Derbyshire based vessel manufacturer, with the mixing equipment being supplied by Glasgow based Transkem.

UPL’s current vessels have a maximum working capacity of 6000lt batches, but in order to meet customer demand for slightly smaller and sometimes more complex batches, it has been decided to invest in this new equipment.

The existing vessels will therefore be replaced with a 4500lt main process vessel & a 2250lt support vessel. The main vessel will have full vacuum, contra rotating mixing with a bottom mounted high shear mixer. This will allow a wider range of products to be made and in particular those which require more complex processing.

There will also be facility for re-circulatory mixing to take place at mid & high points. More automated controls systems will be installed to assist with making batch times more efficient and this should also lead to better quality and more consistent batches of liquid.

UPL’s Managing Director Mike Peters commented: "This is just the start of our ongoing commitment to invest in the future of UPL and ensure that we continue to meet changing customer requirements to stay at the top of the industry."
