Strategic expansion in high growth market

Brazilian speciality and commodity chemicals distributor Arinos Química Ltda is the latest company to be acquired by chemical distributor Univar Inc. Univar bought Arinos – one of Brazil’s leading distributors – for an undisclosed sum. The company sources both speciality and commodity chemicals from over 60 suppliers and delivers over 1,600 products to more than 6,500 customers. It has also developed over 20 branded products through its formulation business.

“Arinos has a highly complementary business model to Univar and provides a strong platform for future growth in the large and rapidly growing Brazilian chemical distribution market,” said John Zillmer, president and ceo of Univar.

Univar’s executive vp, industry relations and president of emerging markets, Terry Hill, added: “Each company has very strong supplier relationships and is focused on providing high value added services and deep industry expertise to customers.”

Meanwhile, the Brazilian company hopes to benefit from Univar’s global presence. “The combination will create many synergies by providing enhanced services for our customers, access to a broader base of chemical manufacturers and products, and opportunities to leverage the global sourcing capabilities of Univar,” commented Arinos ceo Mateos Dias.
